About the Artist
After earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Brigham Young University, I moved to Cache Valley, Utah, where I commandeered the family library for use as a studio. I live ten minutes from the mountains, and spend most of my free time climbing, hiking, and biking. But when I can force myself inside I love to paint!
My approach to creating art, my compositions and subject matter, often reflect the observations and discoveries I've made while exploring the outdoors. I find inspiration in the disparate realities of man-made environments and the natural landscape; the order and chaos, the familiar and the exotic, the organic and the contrived elements of my surroundings. I'm an observational painter, and my work is generally representational, but I use symbolism to invite multiple interpretations. Though highly conceptual, I try to keep my work ambiguous and inclusive enough to allow for multiple layers of meaning. I'm also looking for ways to incorporate humor in my art and keep it playful!
I enjoy working in a variety of media, and have worked in everything from watercolors to clay. I love photography, illustration, printmaking and ceramics, but my primary interest is in oil painting. I'm currently working on a new series of oil paintings inspired by Australian aboriginal art.
